Ball Mill Drives
These large coal crushing drive systems are usually rotated by motor-driven gearing. A typical application consists of a motor-driven primary single-stage reducer that, through a flexible coupling, drives a large open pinion which in turn, meshes with a large ball mill ring (girth) gear that is attached directly to the ball mill.
For over 50 years, we have supplied both the primary reducer and the open gear-set required to drive ball mill coal pulverizers.
Primary features of the Philadelphia Gear design:
- Horizontally offset parallel shaft configuration
- Single reduction, single helical gearing, supported by rolling element bearings
- Splash lubricated gearing with heaters for low temperature operation
- Integrated system turning gear (optional) which is chain driven and used during maintenance procedures performed on the ball mill
