Philadelphia Gear

U.S. Coast Guard Gearbox Repair

From one of their newest facilities in Santa Fe Springs, California (CA), Philadelphia Gear is expanding their design, process and manufacturing business to meet the growing needs of marine reduction gear product lines for the U.S Coast Guard. After acquiring General Electric’s line of main reduction gears, Philadelphia Gear had no choice but to expand in order to maintain a high level of quality and service.

Philadelphia Gear now services and repairs both new and aftermarket gearboxes for the following ship classes of the U.S. Coast Guard:

  • WAGB Polar Class ice breakers - Designed for open-water icebreaking in the Arctic and Antarctic. Ships used for research purposes and to provide remote stations with supplies.
  • WHEC Hamilton Class cutters – Powered by diesel engines and gas turbines and use controllable-pitch propellers.  Equipped with helicopter flight deck, retractable hangar, and facilities that allow helicopter deployment.
  • WMEC Reliance Class cutters – Used for law enforcement and search and rescue missions.  Can support one helicopter.  Powered by two diesel engines.
  • WLB Juniper Class seagoing buoy tenders – Uses a single controllable pitch propeller, bow and stern thrusters which allows efficient maneuverability in restricted waters and to reach offshore buoys.
  • WPC Patrol Boats - Used by Homeland Security, search and rescue and law enforcement teams in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.  Powered by four diesel engines.
